Tips for Children with Daytime Urinary Incontinence

Daytime wetting in children is a common issue. Approximately 3-4% of children between the ages of 3 and 12 experience daytime urinary leakage regularly, but with the right support, it can be resolved.

  • Encourage the child to visit the toilet regularly, even if they don’t feel the need.
  • Set fixed times for toilet visits and ensure the child empties their bladder fully.
  • A bladder diary can help track patterns and improve control over urination.
  • Never punish the child for accidents – instead, encourage them and boost their confidence.
  • Ensure the child drinks enough fluids to maintain a good fluid balance and help with toilet visits.
  • A vibrating wristwatch can be a great tool to remind the child to go to the toilet, especially when you can’t be there to remind them in person.

If Your Child Wet the Bed at Night

The medical term for bedwetting is nocturnal enuresis. Experts estimate that up to 160 million people worldwide suffer from bedwetting. Bedwetting can significantly impact families. However, there are some tips to help manage the problem. Here are a few ideas to help you along the way:

  • Bedwetting is not your child’s fault. Do not punish or tease them.
  • Let the child drink as much as they want. Swedish research has shown that this has little effect on bedwetting alarm treatment.
  • Use Pjama when your child sleeps, both at home and away.
  • If your child experiences daytime wetting, use the Watch With Vibrating Alarm.
  • Download our DryGuardians app to track progress in the calendar. This will also be useful when you contact a doctor.
  • Talk about it! Many adults and children suffer from bedwetting, but no one talks about it.
